Dr Kevan Manwaring

MA Creative Writing, Course Leader

Dr Kevan Manwaring is an author and Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at Arts University Bournemouth. His research focuses on the ecological imaginary in fantasy and other creative forms. An academic consultant for BBC 4’s The Secret Life of Books, and a contributor to BBC Radio 3’s Free Thinking, he has much experience as a spoken word performer, panelist, and guest speaker. He blogs as the Bardic Academic.

He has contributed articles to  Writing in Practice, New Writing, TEXT, Axon, English Review, Revenant, and Gothic Nature, and is the New Nature Writing editor for Panorama: the journal of travel, place, and nature.

Kevan's career highlights

  • BBC New Generation Thinker finalist 2022 (a highly competitive programme open to Early Career Researchers across the UK). 
  • Contributor to BBC Radio 3 Free Thinking (instigator and guest on special anniversary feature about the author John Cowper Powys, recorded at Broadcasting House, London, September 2022). 
  • Academic consultant for BBC 4’s The Secret Life of Books (Cider with Rosie). Interviewed the novelist Joanne Trollope on screen, and acted as a script editor. Broadcast 2015.
