Mark Lyken

MA Film Practice Online Tutor

Mark Lyken is a filmmaker and sound artist based in rural Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.

He is a self-shooting and editing filmmaker whose work is often the result of long-term collaborative, community engaged residencies across the UK and internationally.

 

Mark has performed and screened around the world with work commissioned by funders including: BBC Arts, LUX Scotland, Screen Scotland, Cryptic Glasgow, British Council, Creative Scotland and Heritage Lottery.

 

Mark is currently editing his fifth feature, a creative documentary commissioned by Alchemy Film & Arts, exploring the unseen town-wide labour and ancient traditions of Hawick's yearly Common Riding.

Career highlights

  • Shooting my first solo feature "Táifēng & the Motorway Saint" in a frenzied five weeks across Taiwan in 2016.
  • Performing my "The Terrestrial Sea" AV piece at Multiplicidade Audio Visual Festival in Rio De Janeiro, the Mexican Centre for Music and Sonic Arts in Morelia, and the work's subsequent release on Important Records.
  • Being commissioned by LUX Scotland and BBC Arts to make a short film for the Now & Next series.
