Discover how AUB Online MA Interior Design students were inspired by renowned Architectural and Interior Designer Oliver Heath's presentation on biophilic sustainable design.
AUB Online MA Interior Design students recently enjoyed a sensory and biophilic sustainable design presentation by Architectural and Interior Designer Oliver Heath. Oliver provided much appreciated and inspirational information on his specialist focused area – delivering health and wellbeing in a built environment – for the benefit of people and planet.
His practice, Oliver Heath Design, is a team of strategists, design practitioners and advocates who are recognised global experts in biophilic design, specialising in enhancing human connections to nature and creating sustainable spaces. Design clients include the likes of Accor Hotels, Bloomberg, The BRE, Booking.com, the John Lewis Partnership, Schneider Electric and Interface Flooring.
Students on MA Interior Design had the opportunity to meet with Oliver during one of their weekly online seminars, providing them with the unique opportunity to ask questions relating to their current ‘Transition’ module.
This module is theory-based and explores transition: the movement and interaction through spatial environments by considering interiority. It takes an alternative approach to how we use the five senses, an important consideration for interior designers, to enhance the user experience and promote social activities within the interior envelope.
When asked about being involved with the master’s course and the experience of meeting the students, Oliver commented:
“It was an absolute pleasure to present to the MA Interior design students, to discuss our work and approach to enhancing nature connections using biophilic design. Their interest and enthusiasm for the subject was evident from the array of insightful (and challenging!) questions.”
Speaking about the presentation and online seminar, Course Leader Sarah Bax added:
“To have an industry professional like Oliver willing to be involved with the course and to pass on his knowledge, is a fantastic opportunity for students.”
Oliver’s extensive presentation experience over the last 24 years has involved working for a number of TV channels, including BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and National Geographic. He’s a passionate advocate of sustainable design and has acted as a spokesperson for the likes of the UK’s Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC), the Energy Saving Trust (EST) and the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).
Students on the AUB Online MA Interior Design course have exclusive access to presentations from industry professionals. Not only does this provide an insight into current industry practice, but also a wealth of research sources and networking links.
