Dr Alex Nevill

MA Film Practice Programme Leader

As a cinematographer and filmmaker, Alex has been involved with several feature films and numerous short projects with a focus on narrative fiction and creative documentary projects. 

His previous films have been supported by Creative England, Channel 4, Film London and screened at major film festivals, such as BFI London, Edinburgh, Palm Springs and IDFA. 

In addition to AUB, Alex has taught at a number of universities around the UK, including University for the Creative Arts, Ravensbourne University London and Kingston School of Art. He has also taught internationally at San Francisco State University (USA) and Paris College of Art (France).

Alex's career highlights

  • Connecting with audiences and other filmmakers when his documentary Ferroequinology was shown at the Slamdance Film Festival. 
  • Being invited to talk about his book Towards a Philosophy of Cinematography at the Centre for Research Excellence in the University of Southern California
  • Visiting places off the beaten track while filming on location including remote parts of Scotland and Wales, rural France and the Nevada desert.
